Dissipation Measurements during Ultrasonic Fatigue Tests

چکیده
The aim of this paper is to analyse the dissipation observed during dynamic fatigue loading at low stress range and high number of cycles. Infrared thermographic techniques were developed to estimate the mean dissipation per cycle. Results derived from tests performed at high loading frequency on pure copper specimens showed a drift of dissipative regimes incompatible with concepts of fatigue limit and/or asymptotic cyclic stability.

Fatigue and ultrasonic testing of epoxy-glass composites
Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to find relationship between the degree of strength degradation caused by fatigue and the changes of ultrasonic wave characteristics such as wave velocity and damping coefficient. Design/methodology/approach: Epoxy-glass composites were subjected to oscillatory bending loadings with constant deflection. During fatigue procedure the force needed to achieve ...

متن کاملCharacterization of Ultrasound Energy Diffusion Due to Small-Size Damage on an Aluminum Plate Using Piezoceramic Transducers
During the propagation of ultrasonic waves in structures, there is usually energy loss due to ultrasound energy diffusion and dissipation. The aim of this research is to characterize the ultrasound energy diffusion that occurs due to small-size damage on an aluminum plate using piezoceramic transducers, for the future purpose of developing a damage detection algorithm. The ultrasonic energy dif...
متن کاملIn-situ ultrasonic monitoring of crack growth under static and dynamic loading conditions [5767-1]
Successful in-situ monitoring of crack initiation and growth is a necessary prerequisite for applying ultrasonic methods to structural health monitoring. For conventional ultrasonic testing methods, a focused beam may be used to directly image the crack tip; however, this method is difficult to apply during fatigue testing because of access limitations and couplant contamination issues. However...
متن کاملHigh frequency guided ultrasonic waves for hidden fatigue crack growth monitoring in multi-layer model aerospace structures
Especially for ageing aircraft the development of fatigue cracks at fastener holes due to stress concentration and varying loading conditions constitutes a significant maintenance problem. High frequency guided waves offer a potential compromise between the capabilities of local bulk ultrasonic measurements with proven defect detection sensitivity and the large area coverage of lower frequency ...
